SDG Working Groups Kick-off Sessions at the WAITRO Summit 2022

The WAITRO Summit 2022 is the event that will kick off the WAITRO SDG Working Groups. The in-person event, taking place during 14-15 November 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa, will provide the perfect space for WAITRO members to establish continuing working groups. The aim is to encourage the participation of researchers and innovators to work together towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Kick-off Sessions at the WAITRO Summit 2022

The WAITRO Summit 2022 will include kick-off sessions, where the participants will define (at least) one clear goal that will determine the group’s tasks for the next two years. The Working Groups are autonomous; therefore, the working program and procedures are decided by the group. The WAITRO Secretariat will offer administrative support.

During registration, WAITRO members can select one of the following Working Groups:

• Working Group on SDG 2: Future Food and Sustainable Agriculture
• Working Group on SDG 3: The Relationship between Good Health and Wellbeing and the other Sustainable Development Goals
• Working Group on SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
• Working Group on SDG 7: Clean and Affordable Solar Energy Solutions

An additional Working Group on SDG 17 will be formed following the workshop Building Sustainable Partnerships with Systems Thinking. This workshop is the latest addition to the Summit’s program and focuses on innovative approaches to partnership building.

SDG Working Groups as part of the WAITRO Innovation Ecosystem

Starting this year, WAITRO will establish working groups to strengthen effective collaborations aiming to contribute to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of the WAITRO Innovation Ecosystem, the WAITRO SDG Working Groups will provide an adequate platform for WAITRO members to exchange ideas, expertise and develop strategic working plans. This initiative will enable researchers and innovators to collaborate, share, and multiply their contributions towards the SDGs in the long-term.

Inspired by the SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”, the upcoming WAITRO Summit will bring together key research and innovation stakeholders from around the world for two days of networking, learning, and forging new partnerships to accelerate the impact on the global goals.

The program will feature keynotes, panel discussions, capacity development workshops, networking sessions and much more.
