BUAN joins WAITRO as a Full Member
The Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) is committed to providing higher education and training in agriculture, natural resources, and related subjects. The university strives to produce job-ready graduates through innovative teaching and research.
The university conducts research on agriculture, natural resources, and related sciences. Its Research Strategy (2018-2024) identifies six themes: food security, agribusiness, climate change, water security, natural resource management, and biotechnology.
The Faculty of Agriculture at the university focuses on conducting research in the fields of Crop Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, and Food Science. The goal is to develop relevant research to address issues affecting the country in these areas.
The Faculty of Natural Resources (FNR) at the university focuses on sustainable management, utilization, and conservation of Botswana’s natural resources, including forests, wildlife, fisheries, aquaculture, and water resources. The socio-economic contributions and ecosystem service values of natural resources are assessed by the faculty. Climate change’s impact and the restoration of degraded land and water bodies are also significant research areas. FNR recognizes the importance of indigenous knowledge systems in the sustainable management, utilization, and conservation of natural resources, and researches this topic as well. FNR aims to build its capacities through research partnerships with domestic, regional, and international organizations.
