AMU joins WAITRO as a Full Member
Arba Minch University (AMU) is a comprehensive public university located in Arba Minch town in southern Ethiopia. The university was established in 1986 as Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (AWTI) and has since grown to become a full-fledged university with several institutes, colleges, and schools.
AMU is committed to offering relevant and quality education and training, conducting problem-solving and indigenous knowledge integrated research, and adapting and transferring skills and technologies to promote socio-economic development in the community. It aspires to be among the top universities in Ethiopia, and the world in teaching, learning, research, and community services.
The university is particularly known for its areas of excellence in water resource development and management, neglected tropical diseases’ research and training, renewable energy research and adaptation, biodiversity research and conservation, and culture and language studies.
The institution places a strong emphasis on values such as the pursuit of truth and freedom of expression, institutional reputability based on successful mission execution, competitiveness in academics and cooperation with others, institutional autonomy with accountability, participatory governance and rule of law, and justice and fairness.
