August 14-16, 2024, Dr. Paul Burrows, Secretary General of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO), a global network for industrial research and development partnerships, visited the headquarters of Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) at Technopolis in Pathum Thani and a TISTR campus in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
On August 14, the delegation was kindly welcomed by Dr. Chutima Eamchotchawalit, Governor of TISTR. Dr. Burrows took the opportunity to share updates on upcoming activities and changes at WAITRO. He also encouraged TISTR to strengthen sustainable collaboration with key WAITRO member organizations, including the Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI) and the National Innovation Center par Excellence (NICE). The delegation engaged with TISTR staff who have benefited from various WAITRO programs, demonstrating the value of fostering closer ties between the WAITRO and its member organizations and inspiring ongoing innovation and research within TISTR.
On August 15 and 16, the delegation visited the Sakaerat Environmental Research Station (SERS), a research station and facility of TISTR in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. SERS is located in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is vital for studying biodiversity, climate change, and carbon sequestration. Its importance lies in its ability to support long-term environmental research and provide a platform for international collaboration, making it a key site for advancing global scientific knowledge and fostering sustainable development. The delegation explored the role of SERS as a critical hub for environmental research with hands-on sessions guided by local researchers.
During the visit to SERS, Dr. Burrows participated in educational activities with students at a science camp, inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in science, technology, and international organizations.
The visit of the WAITRO, JITRI, and NICE joint delegation to TISTR aims to further strengthen and deepen international cooperation in scientific research and innovation through the WAITRO network.
