WAITRO Regional Representative at the 9th India International Science Festival

On January 17-20th 2024, the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) of India hosted the 9th India International Science Festival (IISF) at the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad, Haryana, India. Theresia Ningsi Astuti, WAITRO’s Regional Representative (RR) for Asia and the Pacific from WAITRO Member the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Indonesia, attended this event.

The National Innovation Foundation (NIF) in India is an autonomous Institution of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. During the event, NIF initiated several new collaborations on different aspects related to Science, Technology and Innovation. Partners included:

  • The National Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, The Ministry of Economy, Republic of Armenia
  • Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF), Commonwealth of Australia
  • Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM), from Malaysia
  • The University of Nairobi & Moi University from the Republic of Kenya
  • The University of Namibia from the Republic of Namibia
  • The Department of Research and Innovation (DRI), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Republic of The Union of Myanmar
  • Foreign Trade University, Socialist Republic of Vietnam
  • The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Republic of Indonesia
  • University of Rwanda, from the Republic of Rwanda

NIF invited a total of 35 international delegations from 21 countries.

Day 1 – The inauguration of IISF 2023 was attended by High Levels of the Government of India, an international delegation, and many students. After the inauguration, there was an introduction from each delegate/organization and discussions with the Indian Leadership.

Day 2 – Round Table on “Science, Technology and Innovations: Learning from Overseas”. Each delegate shared about Science, Technology and Innovations and also potential collaborations, both with India and with other countries.

Day 3 – Round Table on “India International Collaboration” continued with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Letter of Intent (LoI) with some delegates.In another session, Theresia was a speaker on the New Age Technology Show and talked about Converting Innovations into Business.

Day 4 – Showing exhibition, another WAITRO member, CSIR India, participated as an exhibitor in this event. During the closing ceremony, there was also an MOU exchange and awarding.

As the RR of Asia and the Pacific, Theresia has a strong desire to strengthen collaboration among countries in the Asia Pacific region and bring it to the rest of the world. She also promoted the BRIN-WAITRO program on Call for Proposals for SDG2: Zero Hunger.

Scientists around the world are encouraged to join this program and benefit from a new range of collaborations. WAITRO, as the Global Innovation Family, is a platform to create a global innovation ecosystem by networking, capacity building, recognition, and cross-border partnerships.
