Call for Application: WAITRO-Fellowship (travel subsidy)

A new fellowship program is launched by the Secretariat of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO) that offers subsidies for international travel of researchers and managerial personnel from WAITRO member organizations, further consolidating WAITRO’s commitment to fostering global collaboration, knowledge exchanges and partnerships, which is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The WAITRO fellowship is co-created and funded with the generous contribution of Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI).

Commencing in March 2024, the WAITRO secretariat plans to sponsor up to 20 fellows annually, providing a unique opportunity for eligible participants to embark on an exchange period ranging from three to six months. This initiative reflects our dedication to creating a vibrant international research community.

Eligibility for the fellowship extends to researchers and managerial personnel affiliated with WAITRO member organizations, ensuring a diverse pool of applicants representing various disciplines and perspectives. Application is open throughout the year and will be assessed by the WAITRO Secretariat case-by-case, maintaining a fair and transparent selection process.

WAITRO has designed a multifaceted support structure to facilitate this valuable knowledge exchange, emphasizing the individual fellow and the receiving institution. The travel grant, a cornerstone of the program, is structured to provide financial assistance to fellows based on the distance of travel:

– Up to 3,000 km: $US1,000

– 3000-6,000 km: $US 2,000

– Over 6,000 km: $US 3,000

For Research Fellowships exceeding six months, an additional grant from $US 1,000 to $US 5,000 will be disbursed to the host institution. This contribution is intended to defray costs associated with accommodating and supporting the extended presence of the fellow. Similarly, for Management Fellowships lasting more than three months, we will provide a grant ranging from $US 500 to $US 2,000 to support the host institution.

This commitment goes beyond merely facilitating travel; it is about creating an environment where researchers can thrive and collaborate across borders. By offering substantial support to both the fellow and the recieving Institution, we aim to encourage long-term partnerships and impactful contributions to the global research landscape.

The WAITRO Secretariat invites researchers from WAITRO member organizations to seize this opportunity, engage in meaningful collaborations, and contribute to the collective advancement of science and technology.
