WAITRO Definations of CP, RR & RFP

A WAITRO Contact Point (CP) is the main point of contact between a member organization and WAITRO. Each member organization is required to maintain a minimum of two CPs, with a third CP from the member’s communications department being highly recommended. The CP receives official notices from the WAITRO Secretariat and acts as a conduit to the rest of their organization, responding to or delegating action in response to calls for participation and other WAITRO announcements.

A Regional Representative (RR) is an individual from a Full WAITRO member representing a region such as Asia and the Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, North America, and Europe on the WAITRO Executive Board. They are each elected by the General Assembly for a term of two years and serve voluntarily to govern the association’s activities.

Regional Focal Points (RFPs) are member organizations selected as extensions of the Secretariat in each of the six WAITRO regions. They promote WAITRO in their respective regions, cultivate regional relationships, and plan regional activities in partnership with the Secretariat. RFPs advocate for the values, mission, and objectives of WAITRO, driving science, technology, and innovation within their regions. RFPs are appointed by the Secretariat on a two year contract, with the approval of the Executive Board. Each RFP will typically involve multiple individuals from the member organization, led by the primary CP.
