About WAITRO

The Global Innovation Family

The World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit association founded in 1970 under the auspices of the United Nations. WAITRO brings together science, technology and innovation stakeholders, including research and technology organizations and research universities, on an international scale and provides a mechanism for its members and partners to connect, partner, share, inspire, and multiply their contributions to solve global challenges and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Organizational Structure of WAITRO

General Assembly

Comprised of all full member organizations of WAITRO.

WAITRO Executive Board

Consisting of five Regional Representatives, one President and two Vice Presidents.

WAITRO Secretariat

The operating body responsible for the management of the Association.

WAITRO Operations

A legal entity of WAITRO based in Germany.

WAITRO-united nations relations

  • Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
  • Consultative status with United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA)

International Partnerships

International organizations, associations or civil-society groups that are collaborating for the SDGs are partners of WAITRO.
