On December 3, 2024, two prominent WAITRO members in the Asia-Pacific region, SIRIM Berhad of Malaysia, and TISTR (Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research), co-hosted the Convention on International Halal Healthcare & Beauty: Integrating Halal Standards – Elevating International Healthcare & Beauty Solutions at the Maruay Garden Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand.

The event was inaugurated with welcoming remarks by Dato’ Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, FASc, President and Group CEO of SIRIM Berhad, WAITRO Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific 2025-2026, and Dr. Sorada Wanlapa, Deputy Governor of Research and Development for Bio-industries, TISTR, representing Assistant Prof. Dr. Weerachai Arjharn, Governor of TISTR.

A keynote speech by Ms. Pechdau Tohmeena, M.D., Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), Thailand, emphasized the integration of Halal standards into international healthcare and beauty markets, showcasing Thailand’s potential as a global leader in these sectors.

???? Halal Certification: Challenges and Opportunities by Mr. Khathawut Lohmud, Head of International and Public Relations, Halal Affairs Department, CICOT.

???? Panel discussions on Innovation in Halal Healthcare & Beauty and Collaborative Opportunities.

???? Introduction to WAITRO by Ms. Pimprapai Supornrat, Senior International Relations Officer, TISTR.

???? Navigating GMP Cosmetic Certification by Mr. Mohd Izhar Mohd Zain, Senior Auditor, SIRIM QAS International.

The event drew over 130 participants from government agencies, research and technology organizations, universities, and the private sector, fostering dialogue and collaboration to drive innovation in Halal healthcare and beauty solutions.

The convention underscored the critical role of Halal standards in shaping the global healthcare and beauty industries. By fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration, TISTR and SIRIM Berhad have paved the way for sustainable growth, innovation, and leadership in the Halal market.
