Renewable Energy Site Suitability Mapping
Renewable Energy Site Suitability Mapping is a GIS-based solution designed to support the identification of optimal locations for wind and solar energy projects through spatial analysis and Earth observation data.
The project combines satellite imagery, geospatial datasets, and GIS technologies to analyze environmental and geographic conditions relevant to renewable energy development. By processing large volumes of spatial data, the tool can generate maps and other visual outputs that help users identify suitable areas and support more informed decisions on renewable energy site selection.
Geospatial Technology for Renewable Energy Planning
The approach demonstrates how satellite data and geospatial technologies can contribute to the transition toward cleaner energy systems. By making complex spatial information more accessible, the solution can support researchers, policymakers, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders involved in renewable energy planning.
The project has been tested at the lab validation stage with supporting technical data. Its methodology is designed to be scalable, with potential for integration of additional satellite data sources and expansion of analytical capabilities. Future development could include a cloud-based platform for large-scale and near-real-time geospatial analysis.
Development and Collaboration Opportunities
The project is developed using open satellite datasets and GIS tools and is seeking collaboration with environmental organizations and research institutions, as well as support for funding, pilot deployments, and policy integration to further develop and scale the solution.
