Prof. Hasan Mandal is a leading expert in Materials Science and Engineering. He has authored over 140 scientific publications, holds six international patents, and has received numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious TÜBİTAK Science Award.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Middle East Technical University and a Ph.D. from Newcastle University in the UK. He also completed post-doctoral research at Newcastle and Karlsruhe Universities.
Prof. Mandal has held prominent academic and leadership roles, including Vice Rector and Director of Research at Sabancı University and Dean at Anadolu University. He has served as President of the Global Engineering Deans Council and the European Ceramic Society.
In Türkiye’s higher education system, he was a member and Deputy Chairman of the Higher Education Council (YÖK) until 2018 and continues to serve as a Council Member. From 2018 to 2024, he was President of TÜBİTAK and now serves as its Counsellor. He is also the current Rector of İstanbul Technical University (İTÜ).
Prof. Mandal was elected President of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO) for the 2023–2024 term and re-elected for 2025–2026.
