About the Summer School
The SAFE–AWARE–INNOAQUA Online Summer School invites students, researchers, and professionals from around the world to explore the latest developments in sustainable water management, aquaculture, and environmental innovation. Bringing together experts, researchers, and practitioners, the initiative provides a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity development, and international collaboration on pressing water-related challenges.
On 26 June 2026, the summer school will host its online session Sustainability & Acceptability from 9:30 AM to 12:45 PM CEST. Chaired by Richard Newton (University of Stirling), the session will focus on innovative approaches to sustainability in water and aquaculture systems and examine how circular economy principles can support more resilient and resource-efficient aquatic sectors.
Session Topics
Participants will gain insights into a range of topics, including sustainability assessment methodologies for water and aquaculture systems, opportunities and barriers for circular aquaculture in the European Union, patent landscaping through an aquaponics case study, the financial and economic viability of circular bioeconomy innovations, and strategies for strengthening resilience across European aquaculture value chains.
The session will feature speakers from the University of Stirling, the University of Galway, SYKE, 3Bio, and INNOVA SRL, who will present perspectives and findings from the SAFE, AWARE, and INNOAQUA projects. Through these contributions, participants will gain access to the latest research developments, practical experiences, and emerging solutions that are shaping the future of sustainable water management and aquaculture.
